Pretty good anitvirus product
By namelesz
I have been using the Microsoft Security Essentials for a couple of years on my primary PC, and for most of the time it was a fine product (considering it's absolutely free) but lately it managed to not detect a few infected work-related files I have received through e-mail from other people (who got their PCs infected without noticing it), luckily it wasn't anything serious and I have managed to clean my PC without any major damage (or data loss) which would require total reformatting. So I finally decided to switch back to a "paid" antivirus, something with better detection rates and overall protection. I've decided to try out the new Kaspersky Antivirus product - I've used it long time ago and was generally satisfied with it except the random system slow-downs which the older Kaspersky products were kind of "known for".
I've downloaded the new version from Kaspersky's own site (you can do that - it's free to evaluate it for 30 days and it's most recent version, unlike the outdated one you will receive on the CD if you order it online or in your local retail store), uninstalled the previous antivirus program (very important step), rebooted my PC, then proceeded to install this one. The installation process was pretty painless and easy to understand. After that, I've rebooted my PC again, then proceeded to adjust various options in the program. The main interface is very user-friendly and "simple", however there are also plenty of configurable options for just about everything. I especially liked that Kaspersky included plenty of options to provide as little "impact" on your PC's performance as possible, for example there's a setting for performing resource-intensive tasks (like antivirus database updates or system scans) only when your PC is "idling". There's also a "Gaming Profile" which again lets you prevent the program to run self-updates or system scans or bother you with notifications while you have a game running. There's also an option to "postpone" the loading of antivirus during the PC start-up (in case if your PC already feels very "slow" when starting up). There are also various useful browser plug-ins, which for example will "block" the malicious website (if the antivirus detects it as such) and display warning about "unsafe content", and also a "virtual keyboard" browser plug-in (which works with IE/Firefox/Chrome browsers) which allows you to safely (well, according to Kaspersky) enter information into web forms. There are many more additional settings which are too long to explain (you can read about them on an official website) and which you should simply try out by yourself (like I said, the KAV is free to try out for 30 days).
After trying out the product for a couple of weeks using all the programs/games I use on my PC I haven't noticed any performance "slow-downs" or anything like this - the antivirus worked in a completely "transparent" way (well, except constantly reminding me about the fact that I was using a trial version... but you can disable this message if it bothers you, or simply enter your retail activation code). I've decided that its features and its performance satisfy my current needs, then I've ordered the retail package here on Amazon (it costs much cheaper than buying it directly from Kaspersky), after the package arrived I opened the box, found the retail license key (it is printed on the paper sleeve with CD), entered it into appropriate field in the program, it validated it online and immediately activated the product for "365 days".
A few advices for future purchasers: if you want to purchase it (or activate the trial version) - don't do it at Kaspersky's own site, it's much cheaper to buy the package with necessary activation code from Amazon (or from other online store). Also, if you'll ever need to reach Kaspersky's tech support - be aware that the package doesn't really include such information, but you can easily find the phone number (or use "live chat") on an official website. And also be aware that if your PC is already infected - this antivirus (or any other) may not install properly on it, in which case you have to "clean out" your existing infection first (Kaspersky's own site has plenty of free tools for such case, including the bootable "Rescue Disk", there are also plenty of sites where other users may help you to do that for free, such as "Bleeping Computer" and others).

Does not Work!
By dbsaurus
I loaded Kaspersky Anti-Virus after I removed the old one. It would not take the verification code and it screwed up my touch pad on my laptop. I call Kaspersky support and he verified that that verification code was good. He told me to do a couple of things to do but the anti-virus software still would not take verification code. He took my email address and told me he would email me a solution but he never did. I also tried their chat line but they couldn't help me either. I'm not an expert but I'm guessing Kaspersky Anti-Virus doesn't work with Windows XP even though they say it does. Kaspersky support will not help!
I have since changed software and loaded Norton's Internet Security instead and it works great... but I still have issues with my touch pad.
